Bob Gibson thinks pitch counts are ridiculous


“The pitch count is probably the most ridiculous thing I could even think about,” says Bob Gibson, who also says he averaged 130 pitches per game over his career and once threw 197 pitches in one 14-inning game.

That included 181 pitches in one day last May.

“No, I don’t regret letting him go 181 pitches,” said Denver Bundy, the young pitcher’s father. “We trained for that number of pitches. (However), we didn’t train for such a long delay between the two games. That wasn’t good.”
